Life & Work Ready

Saddleback's Life & Work Ready collection gives striving teen readers three ways to build real-world skills. Life Skills Handbooks read more like magazines than textbooks, pairing practical content with realistic scenarios, charts, and essential vocabulary to teach life skills in an approachable, non-threatening way. Lifeskills In Action offers five-book sets on independent living, covering topics like managing money, finding and keeping a job, and household tasks, with each book pairing a nonfiction side with a fiction side so students can put what they learn into practice. CTE Journeys Handbooks round things out with career-field guides plus the Next Steps: Personal Exploration Guide. All three series are also available together in the Life & Work Ready Bundle.

Life & Work Ready Bundle

The Life & Work Ready Bundle is a sample set that brings together one title from each of the three series: Lifeskills In Action, Life Skills Handbooks, and CTE Journeys Handbooks. Spanning reading levels 1.0 to 4.0 (Lexile HL130L–HL810L) for grades 9 to 12, it's an easy way for a classroom or library to sample a wide range of real-world topics, from independent living and workplace readiness to career exploration, before deciding where to expand.

CTE Journeys Handbooks

CTE Journeys Handbooks help students navigate their plans for life after high school, with a deep focus on careers that don't require a traditional four-year degree. Each of the 16 handbooks, about 100 pages long, explores the rewards and challenges of a specific field, along with the types of roles, skills, and interests involved, from agriculture and healthcare to information technology and transportation and logistics. Written at a 3.0 reading level (Lexile HL360L–HL560L) for grades 9 to 12, the series gives striving readers a real, practical look at career paths in industries they might actually pursue.

Students identify their own strengths and interests, research local employers, analyze salary information, and map out a budget. It's designed to work alongside the CTE Journeys Handbooks, but it also stands on its own for students planning futures outside of technical careers. Sold in packs of 10 workbooks.

Lifeskills In Action

Lifeskills In Action delivers five-book sets, each covering a key area of independent living: job skills, living skills, money skills, or soft skills. Developed for students reading at the most basic level, every book is really two books in one, a nonfiction side that teaches the skill and a fiction side that shows teens applying it in a real-world situation.
