Decode Phonics Teaching Cards™ deliver targeted, explicit phonics instruction for secondary students who need foundational skill-building, without materials that feel beneath them. Built for striving readers in grades 4-12, including English Language Learners, students with IEPs, and newcomers, the set gives teachers a fast, flexible way to close specific phonics gaps without pulling out a full curriculum.

You don't need any of Saddleback's reader sets to use these cards. While they're designed to complement TwERL, TERL, and our other phonics-based libraries, Decode Phonics Teaching Cards work equally well as a standalone resource for any classroom, intervention block, or small group that needs quick, targeted phonics practice.

Twelve card sets take students from basic consonants through multisyllabic words, covering letter-sound correspondences and spelling patterns at each stage. Each set includes a Quick Start Guide with a clear introduction to that set's phonics skill and a menu of ready-to-use activities, guided practice, pattern sorts, and sound discrimination exercises, so teachers can pick up a set and start using it right away. Cards work equally well in whole-group instruction, partner work, or one-on-one intervention.
