GO! Decode® is the first of three tiers in Tween Emergent Reader Libraries® Phonics, a nine-level phonics continuum for grades 4-8 striving readers who are still building basic decoding skills; it is also a strong fit for newcomers with no prior English language skills. GO! Decode® covers Levels One through Three, moving from initial consonant sounds and CVC words through early long-vowel patterns and consonant blends, spanning a reading level of 0.5 to 0.9 (Lexile BR90L to HL110L).

Each level includes eight 16-24 page books, six fiction and two nonfiction, so students get real reading practice while phonics skills are still being built, not just isolated drills. Every book includes a phonics-organized word list, and a comprehensive teacher's guide backs each level with lesson plans, vocabulary-building activities, strategic reading questions, and a quiz. Progress-monitoring assessments track a student's movement through all nine levels of the continuum.

Scope and sequence, GO! Decode [1]:

  • Level One: initial and terminal single consonants, short vowels (a, e, i, o, u), CVC words, inflection -s
  • Level Two: adds soft and hard /c/ and /g/ sounds, CVCC words
  • Level Three: adds open-syllable long vowels in CV words, long vowels in CVCe words, beginning consonant blends, y used as a vowel pronounced long e or i
