Welcome Newcomers Stories™ collects real, first-person accounts from teen immigrants who came to the United States; each of the 18 titles is based on transcribed interviews and told in that teen's own words. Each book follows the same emotional arc: the journey to America, the first days in an American classroom, and the memorable moments in between, and closes with the teen's advice for other newcomers facing a similar transition. A full-color nonfiction section at the back of every book gives background on the featured country, and a glossary defines key terms. The set includes a full Instructional Support Guide with lesson plans, vocabulary instruction, strategic reading questions, graphic organizers, project ideas, and assessments, plus 263 vocabulary cards (15 words per book) to build language skills alongside the stories.
